The funeral of former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha will take place at 4.30 pm Tuesday evening, the state government has confirmed. Jayalalitha will be cremated next to the memorial of Dr MGR, her mentor, off Marina beach. Her mortal remains were brought to her house in the early hours of Tuesday and at 6 am it was taken to Rajaji Hall where thousands have gathered to pay their tributes to the leader popularly known as ‘amma’ or mother.
Her death was announced a little before midnight, with Apollo Hospitals and the state government announcing that she breathed her last at 11.30 pm. The state has announced a week of mourning while the central government has announced one day of mourning.
