When cricketers like Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara didn’t have any takers at the IPL 2017 auction, a Hyderabadi surprised everyone by bagging a deal of Rs 2.60 crore. The 22-year-old Mohammed Siraj hit the jackpot after he was bought for a large amount by Sunrisers Hyderabad Team. His base price was Rs 20 lakh.
Siraj has showcased his talents a few times before during regional and inter-state matches. He has gained the stature of a known pacer in Hyderabad cricket circle.
“For 20 seconds, I remained speechless. Then, I got up from my chair to hug my mother with the great news that I hit a jackpot in the auction. Everybody was thrilled and amazed”, an excited Siraj told.
“I will drive the auto as long as I have the strength. Why should I depend on sons?” said siraj father Mohammed Ghouse, who found out about the news only when he came home for lunch.
Siraj was originally playing tennis. However, a couple of years ago, his uncle Akbar Khan encouraged him to play cricket.
Siraj discontinued his studies while in intermediate. “Ever since, I started playing cricket, studies became my second priority. I dedicated my time to this and my uncle encouraged me, saying I would have a successful career in cricket”, he said, adding, “I am even more happy that i will be playing for my hometown-based Sunrisers Hyderabad.”
