Karimnagar gets smart city status

The dreams of the people of Karimnagar came true when the Centre announced the list of 30 cities to be included in the Smart City Mission. Karimnagar became the second city after Warangal to get the ‘Smart City’ tag in Telangana State.

Under the Smart City Mission, the Centre provides Rs 500 crore to each city over a period of five years for implementing various projects. The fresh list of smart cities was announced by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi.

As news of Karimnagar being selected under Smart City Mission, people came out of their houses, burst crackers and distributed sweets. While ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) activists celebrated the announcement at Telangana Chowk, BJP workers celebrated it in front of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation office.

Meanwhile, local MP B Vinod Kumar, KMC Mayor S Ravinder Singh, MLA Gangula Kamalakar and others met Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and thanked him for successfully pursuing the issue with the Union government.
